“The Translation Process” in Stand Magazine “The Translation Process” in Stand Magazine

The latest issue of Stand Magazine is dedicated to the theme of “China Journeys”, and it features writing from various people who have been involved with the “Writing Chinese” programme at Leeds University over the last few years. There’s a great selection of prose and poetry, including the winning translation from the competition I helped judge in 2015: Luisetta Mudie’s translation of “One Day, One of the Screws Will Come Loose” by 李静睿 Li Jingrui. There are also reflections on translating poetry from Canaan Morse, Eleanor Goodman, and Heather Inwood, and a more general discussion on translation between Eric Abrahamsen, Nicky Harman, Natascha Bruce, and me.

Best of all, the translations are all presented bilingually in both Chinese and English, which makes it a wonderful resource for anyone interested in translation. And it’s available completely free online!
